# Choose a change people can demonstrate

Start your Elvina learning plan with a job someone needs to perform. Your first exercise is to make that job observable.

## Choosing a training outcome, in short

Choosing a training outcome means naming one task a person in one role should perform, the situation it happens in and the evidence a reviewer will accept, before any material is written. This lesson is for owners, managers and trainers planning a first course who want a result they can watch rather than a topic to cover. Once your outcome sentence names the task and the reviewer, Elvina drafts a lesson and a check aimed at that task from your approved source, available now.

## What happens on the free demo

- Book 30 minutes. Pick a time with Elvina's team. The demo is free and runs on Zoom.
- Show the team your goal. Bring one role or one procedure. The team shows how Elvina would handle it, using sample materials.
- Agree on the next step. You leave with a plan for the first step and its price. Nothing reaches your team until you approve it.

## Look for a repeated moment

A fictional service team spends time answering the same delivery questions. The learning opportunity is specific: help new representatives handle an ordinary delivery query and recognize when it needs escalation. That is easier to evaluate than a broad goal such as improving customer service.

## Define a visible result

Describe what the learner must do, under which conditions, and how a reviewer will judge it. A completed lesson is one piece of evidence about participation. Correctly applying the delivery rule to a new case shows more about readiness for work.

## Write your own example

Complete this sentence: For this role, we want people to perform this task under these conditions, demonstrated by this evidence. Choose a task you can observe without using sensitive records. Add the person who will decide whether the evidence is sufficient.

## Check before moving on

Ask whether two reviewers would understand the same task and evidence. If not, narrow the wording. Numerical targets come after examining a baseline and agreeing on expectations with the owner. This exercise creates a planning example; it does not launch an Elvina workflow.

## Who this is not for, and when another tool fits

### This is not the right fit if

- Your outcome is already agreed on and you only need the training written.
- You want a numeric target set for you before anyone looks at today's work.
- The change you need is about pay, staffing or tools rather than what people do.

### Another kind of tool may fit better

- Your HR or legal advisor, for documents that carry legal weight such as contracts and policies.
- A blank document, if one manager will fill this out once and nobody needs the training behind it.

## Questions

**Q:** What makes an outcome observable?

A reviewer can watch it or inspect it. Handling an ordinary customer query and knowing when to pass it on is observable; improving customer service is not. If two reviewers would judge the same work differently, narrow the task or the evidence.

**Q:** Should the outcome include a number, such as a target time?

Not at first. Set a number only after you have looked at how the work goes today and agreed on the expectation with the owner of the process. A target picked before that baseline usually measures the guess, not the team.

**Q:** Is a finished lesson enough evidence of the outcome?

No. A finished lesson shows that someone took part. Evidence of the outcome is the person applying the rule to a new case while a reviewer watches or inspects the work. Completions by person are available now and show who is ready for that check.
