# Hand off a playable training video

An approved timeline, target resolution, audio tracks and caption requirements.

Updated October 27, 2026

## MP4 export of a training video, in short

An MP4 export turns an approved video lesson into a plain file that runs on players without a browser, such as a back-office screen in a store. It suits learning administrators at grocery, retail and service chains who hand video to devices or teams outside the Learning Platform. You set resolution, audio tracks and caption delivery before rendering. MP4, SCORM and xAPI export is available now. Exporting hands over a file, while assigning it and testing it on the real device stay with your team.

## What happens on the free demo

- Book 30 minutes. Pick a time with Elvina's team. The demo is free and runs on Zoom.
- Show the team your goal. Bring one role or one procedure. The team shows how Elvina would handle it, using sample materials.
- Agree on the next step. You leave with a plan for the first step and its price. Nothing reaches your team until you approve it.

## Who this is for, and when

A learning administrator at a regional grocery chain needs a produce receiving video on the in-store player, which does not run a browser. The player needs a plain MP4 with English and Spanish audio and sidecar captions. Exporting is the hand-off; assigning is a separate decision for the store managers.

## How it works in Elvina

An MP4 export is ready to test in the receiving player with its runtime and caption delivery method recorded.

- Open the approved timeline in Creation Studio and choose Export.
- Set resolution, select audio tracks and choose burned-in or sidecar captions.
- Elvina renders the file and records runtime, file size and the caption delivery method.
- Download, open it outside the editor in the target player, and check sound, seeking and the final frame.
- Publishing or assigning in the Learning Platform is a separate, deliberate step.

## A worked example

A fictional chain, Fresh Field Markets, exports Produce Receiving Basics at 1080p with English and Spanish narration tracks and SRT captions for each language. The administrator tests the file on a store player in the back office before sending it to the district.

- The export produced a 6:12 MP4 with two audio tracks and two SRT files.
- Seeking and the final frame worked on the store player.
- The video was not assigned; store managers received the file with a note on caption placement.

## What to check before relying on it

Open the file outside the editor. Check sound, seeking, aspect ratio and the final frame; exporting is not publishing or assigning.

- The file plays in the receiving player, not only in the editor.
- Seeking works across the full runtime.
- Aspect ratio matches the target screen.
- The final frame is not cut short.
- Captions arrive in the format the player expects.

## Where a person stays in charge

Export produces a file; it does not publish, assign or notify learners. Elvina cannot test compatibility with every player, so the person exporting checks on the real device. Re-export after any timeline change. Confirm with your administrator whether exported files count as controlled documents in your organization.

## Who this is not for, and when another tool fits

### This is not the right fit if

- The receiving system must record who finished the video.
- You want the file pushed to every store and its staff notified.
- The source media is lower quality than the resolution you need.

### Another kind of tool may fit better

- A SCORM or xAPI package, when the receiving system tracks completion.
- Your store IT or AV team, to load and test the file on each player.

## Questions

**Q:** Can I re-export after fixing a slide?

Yes. Each export is a new file with its own record of runtime and settings.

**Q:** Do I need SCORM instead?

Only if the receiving system tracks completion. For a standalone player, MP4 is enough.

**Q:** What resolutions are available?

Standard options such as 720p and 1080p. Higher targets depend on the source media.
