# Create a video lesson from a URL you may reuse

An authorized URL, selected passages and a learning objective.

Updated October 27, 2026

## Create a lesson from permitted web material

A video from a URL is a short narrated lesson built from passages you select on a web page your company owns or may reuse, such as its own help article. Product marketers, support leads and trainers use it when accurate documentation goes unread. Elvina records which revision of the page was used and drafts one scene per passage without adding product behavior the text does not state. Pasting a link and drafting lessons from it are available now. Flagging lessons when the page changes is planned, not available today.

## What happens on the free demo

- Book 30 minutes. Pick a time with Elvina's team. The demo is free and runs on Zoom.
- Show the team your goal. Bring one role or one procedure. The team shows how Elvina would handle it, using sample materials.
- Agree on the next step. You leave with a plan for the first step and its price. Nothing reaches your team until you approve it.

## Who this is for, and when

A product marketing manager at a payroll software company keeps re-explaining year-end filing because the help center article is accurate but unread. The article is the company's own, so reuse is permitted. She wants a short lesson from selected passages, tied to the article revision so it can be checked when the page changes.

## How it works in Elvina

A storyboard explains the selected product guidance and links back to the source revision.

- The manager pastes the help center URL into Creation Studio, confirms the company owns the content, and selects the four passages that matter for the lesson.
- Elvina records the page revision in Company Knowledge and drafts a storyboard that explains the selected guidance with a proposed scene per passage.
- She adds the learning objective, removes a scene that restated an unselected passage, and checks that no product behavior was added.
- She generates the draft and links it to the source revision, so the author can compare passages when the page is imported again.

## A worked example

A fictional vendor, Paylane Software, publishes a help article called Year-End Filing Checklist. The manager selects the passages on deadlines, form generation, correction windows and confirmation receipts. The article revision is dated August 2026 and owned by the documentation team.

- The storyboard has four scenes, one per passage, with a spoken explanation and an on-screen summary for each.
- The lesson cites the article revision, and the link back to the source is visible in the lesson footer.
- After the documentation team edited the correction window passage, the manager re-added the page and updated scene three.

## What to check before relying on it

Confirm access, reuse rights and current content. A URL cannot authorize copying a whole site or inventing unsupported product behavior.

- The URL is content you own or are licensed to reuse, and that permission is recorded.
- Only the selected passages are represented; no scene describes behavior the source does not state.
- The source revision is linked from the lesson so changes can be traced.
- The learning objective is met by the four scenes without outside material.

## Where a person stays in charge

A URL grants access to a page, not permission to copy a site. Elvina reads the passages you select and does not crawl beyond them or invent product behavior to fill gaps. Third-party pages need explicit reuse rights, and a lesson is only as current as the revision it cites.

## Who this is not for, and when another tool fits

### This is not the right fit if

- The page belongs to another company and you have no reuse rights.
- You want a whole website turned into a course.
- The article is out of date and nobody owns it.

### Another kind of tool may fit better

- Your documentation team, to fix an article before it becomes training.
- A plain link in a job aid, when staff only need to find the page.

## Questions

**Q:** Can I use a competitor's help page as a source?

No. You need reuse rights, and Elvina will not copy another company's documentation into training.

**Q:** What happens when the article changes?

Nothing updates automatically, and Elvina does not watch the page. When the page changes, import it again and compare the passages before updating the lesson.

**Q:** Why does the lesson cite a page revision?

So anyone can see which version of the page the lesson was built from. When the article changes, compare the new passages with the cited revision and update only the scenes that differ.
