# A protocol for time to independent work.

A proposed measurement method for a bounded onboarding pilot. No experimental results are reported.

## Question and primary measure

Does the agreed learning workflow reduce working time to independently passing a practical task while preserving quality? Start the clock when prerequisites and access are available. Stop it when a reviewer records a pass against a fixed rubric. Record pauses and incomplete observations.

## Comparison and sample

Agree on an eligible role and cohort before starting. Use a comparable baseline and document differences in experience, workload, supervision, and task difficulty. Report participant counts and missing observations. Do not select only people who completed the program.

## Quality and effort

Track critical errors, missed escalations, and manager support minutes alongside readiness time. Count preparation and review effort. Faster completion with poorer decisions is not success. Show the median and spread when individual times vary substantially.

## What to record for each participant

For every participant, record the start date, the day access became available, each practice attempt, the reviewer’s rubric score and any pause, such as leave. Keep the same reviewers for the baseline and the pilot where possible, and note when a reviewer changes. A participant who leaves before the check stays in the denominator as not assessed, not as a pass or a fail.

## Interpretation and next decision

A small before-and-after pilot offers directional evidence, not automatic causal proof. Record confounders and adverse outcomes. Agree whether to stop, revise, or expand based on the full evidence. Targets are set with the customer after inspecting the baseline, not invented for the website.
