# Onboarding and Training Cost Calculator: Two Plans Side by Side

An employee training cost calculator adds up what training takes today: learner hours, manager support, preparation time and direct costs, each priced at your own hourly rates. This one runs in your browser, compares two plans side by side and assumes no saving from Elvina, so every number comes from your inputs.

## Estimate the time and cost of your training plan.

An onboarding cost calculator estimates what bringing a cohort up to speed will cost before you choose a plan: hours of learning, manager support and preparation, priced at your own rates, plus direct costs. It is for owners and managers comparing two ways to train the same people over the same period. The math is visible, nothing leaves your browser, and no saving from Elvina is assumed. In the chat, Elvina drafts a free training plan you can price here.

## What happens on the free demo

- Book 30 minutes. Pick a time with Elvina's team. The demo is free and runs on Zoom.
- Show the team your goal. Bring one role or one procedure. The team shows how Elvina would handle it, using sample materials.
- Agree on the next step. You leave with a plan for the first step and its price. Nothing reaches your team until you approve it.

## What should you compare?

Compare one cohort over the same chosen period. Use a loaded hourly cost consistently for each role. Record learning hours per person; manager support and content preparation are totals for the period, not per learner. BLS's Employer Costs for Employee Compensation tracks employer cost per hour worked for wages and salaries and for benefits, a reminder that a loaded hourly cost includes both.

## How do you avoid counting hours twice?

If one person manages and prepares training, split those hours instead of counting them twice. Enter your own preparation and ongoing effort once. Elvina Team is $100 per month with 40,000 credits per month; include the months in your comparison under direct costs without adding that expense twice. Free is a guided demo; Enterprise has custom terms.

## What does a negative result mean?

Higher scenario costs appear as a negative saving. Zero baseline cost does not produce a percentage. The example inputs are editable arithmetic examples, not market averages or measured Elvina results.

## Keep learning quality beside the numbers.

Fewer training hours can be worse if people are less prepared. Agree on a work-readiness criterion and track it independently. This tool is a planning estimate, not a financial forecast or a guarantee.

## What it does not do, and when another tool fits

### What this calculator does not do

- Promise a saving: every number comes from your inputs.
- Send your inputs anywhere: they stay in this browser.
- Forecast your finances: it is a planning estimate.

### Another tool may fit better

- A finance model, when you need a forecast with cash flow.
- A time study on real shifts, when you need measured hours.

## Questions

**Q:** What is the formula?

Learners × learning hours × learner hourly cost + manager hours × manager hourly cost + preparation hours × author hourly cost + direct costs.

**Q:** Are the two plans calculated independently?

Yes. Neither plan is created by applying a promised percentage reduction to the other.

**Q:** Can I save the assumptions?

Download a local JSON record of the inputs, formula, period, and result. Nothing is sent to Elvina.
