# Export learning content in the right handoff format

Approved content, receiving system and its supported format/version.

Updated October 27, 2026

## Choose the right handoff format

Exporting learning content is handing an approved course to another system in a format that system accepts, and knowing what survives the trip. It serves learning operations managers who deliver one course to several clients or platforms with different requirements. Export as SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI or MP4 is available now, and Elvina adds a handoff checklist that records what each format keeps, such as quiz behavior and captions. The receiving system is tested by a person, and an export never counts as an assignment.

## What happens on the free demo

- Book 30 minutes. Pick a time with Elvina's team. The demo is free and runs on Zoom.
- Show the team your goal. Bring one role or one procedure. The team shows how Elvina would handle it, using sample materials.
- Agree on the next step. You leave with a plan for the first step and its price. Nothing reaches your team until you approve it.

## What you bring and what Elvina returns

| You bring | Elvina returns, for your approval | Status |
|---|---|---|
| An approved course and the system a client will host it in | A SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 or xAPI package plus a checklist of what carries over | available now |
| A client who has no LMS and only needs people to watch | An MP4 file of the video lesson, ready to hand to that client | available now |
| The revision that should ship to each platform | Only the approved revision exported, with the handoff noting which revision went where | available now |

## Who this is for, and when

A learning operations manager at a healthcare staffing agency delivers compliance training to clinicians who then work inside hospital systems. Each client wants the content in a different form: one takes an editable deck, one wants a playable video, one insists on a SCORM package for its own LMS. He needs to pick the right format each time and know what survives the handoff.

## How it works in Elvina

A handoff checklist distinguishes editable deck, playable video and SCORM package, each with a receiving test.

- He selects the approved course in Creation Studio and records the receiving system and the format and version it accepts.
- Elvina drafts a handoff checklist that distinguishes editable presentation, video file and SCORM package, with what each preserves: sources, captions, quiz behavior.
- He runs the receiving test on the checklist: open the file in the client's system and confirm the assessment records a completion.
- The export is logged with the course revision and destination, separate from any assignment on the Learning Platform.

## A worked example

A fictional agency, Beacon Clinical Staffing, places nurses at 40 hospitals. Its 'Infection Prevention Refresher' course, revision 7, includes captions and a six-question quiz. Three clients need it this quarter: one accepts a deck, one a video, and one a SCORM 1.2 package for a legacy LMS.

- Three exports from the same revision with a checklist row for each: what was preserved, what was lost, and the test performed.
- The SCORM package tested in the legacy LMS with a completion recorded; the video export noted that quiz interaction is not included.
- An export log tying each file to revision 7 so a future correction can be traced to every client.

## What to check before relying on it

Preserve sources, captions and assessment behavior where supported. Export alone proves neither assignment nor learning results.

- The chosen format matches what the receiving system states it supports, including version.
- Source citations and captions are present in the export where the format allows them.
- A completion test in the receiving system was performed and its result written down.
- The export record names the course revision that was sent.

## Where a person stays in charge

An export proves that a file left Elvina in the requested format. It does not prove the client assigned it, that learners took it, or that results flowed back. Elvina does not connect to the client's LMS or push content into it; the manager uploads the file and runs the acceptance test. Format support is confirmed per system.

## Who this is not for, and when another tool fits

### This is not the right fit if

- You need Elvina to push files straight into a client’s LMS.
- Your receiving system accepts none of these formats.
- You need proof that learners in another system finished the course.

### Another kind of tool may fit better

- Your LMS administrator, for the upload and the completion test on the receiving side.
- A course conversion service, when an old format must be rebuilt by hand.

## Questions

**Q:** Which format keeps the quiz working?

SCORM carries the assessment and reports completion when the receiving LMS supports it. A video or deck does not run a quiz; the checklist says so.

**Q:** Can we export one revision to many clients at once?

You can export the same revision repeatedly, and each export is logged separately with its destination.

**Q:** Which format should I pick when a client does not say?

Ask which system will host the course and whether it must record completions. If it must, SCORM or xAPI fits; if people only need to watch, an MP4 file is simpler. Test the choice in that system before the real handoff.
