An AI LMS or an AI Employee: Who Builds the Courses
An AI LMS, also marketed as an AI training platform, is a learning management system that uses AI for part of the training work, from suggesting quiz questions to drafting whole courses. This page is for owners and HR leads who keep seeing the label and want to know what the AI really does.

What an AI LMS is
An AI LMS is a learning system in which artificial intelligence takes over some of the course work, anywhere from proposing a few quiz items to writing complete programs. Owners and HR leads comparing them should ask two things: who still writes and updates the courses, and who chases the people who fall behind. Elvina answers both as an AI employee with her own platform: course drafts from your sources, approval, assignment and progress are available now, and answers to staff in chat are planned, not available today.
The useful question is who builds the courses and who runs the follow-up.
What happens on the free demo
- Book 30 minutes. Pick a time with Elvina's team. The demo is free and runs on Zoom.
- Show the team your goal. Bring one role or one procedure. The team shows how Elvina would handle it, using sample materials.
- Agree on the next step. You leave with a plan for the first step and its price. Nothing reaches your team until you approve it.
What to look for
The same label covers very different products. Ask each vendor to show, on your own material, which of these jobs the AI does and which still fall to your staff.
- Course building: does the AI write from your procedures, from a prompt, or only polish text you wrote?
- Review: can you name who approves each course before staff see it, and can that step be skipped?
- Follow-up: who sorts people into groups, assigns courses and chases anyone who has not started?
- Answers between lessons: can staff ask questions, and are the answers limited to approved material?
- Records: progress and quiz scores by person and by group, plus an export if you leave. Elvina records completions per person and group; detailed quiz answers and scores are not stored.
Where most tools stop
Four kinds of products use the AI label, compared here as of October 2, 2026. These are kinds, not brands, and AI features change often, so ask for a live demo on one of your own documents. For wider questions about AI risk, the National Institute of Standards and Technology put out its AI Risk Management Framework on January 26, 2023, for voluntary use.
| Kind | What the AI does | Who builds courses | Who runs the follow-up | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Classic LMS | Little or nothing | Your team, in the editor | An admin or a manager. | Admin hours as the team grows. |
| LMS with AI features | Drafts text or quiz questions, suggests courses, sometimes answers questions | Your team, with AI drafts to edit | An admin or a manager, helped by enrollment rules. | Which AI features work today and which are only announced. |
| AI course generator with no platform | Writes a course from a prompt or a file | The generator, then whoever checks it | Nobody, until you upload the course somewhere. | Generic content and no record of who learned it. |
| AI employee with a learning platform (Elvina) | Drafts courses from your approved sources (available now) | Elvina drafts and a person approves (available now) | Groups, assignment and progress (available now); reminders and progress digests are planned, not available today. | Answers in Chat and scheduled reports to managers are planned, not available today. |
How Elvina approaches it
Elvina is an AI employee with her own learning platform, so the AI does the course work and the platform handles delivery. Approved SOPs, manuals and recordings go into Company Knowledge, each with an owner. Creation Studio turns them into courses, lessons, quizzes and job aids, and a person approves each one before release. The Learning Platform puts staff into groups, assigns programs and shows progress, and staff open lessons in the Web workspace. Our team runs these steps with you today, and Elvina working on her own is planned, not available today.
- Course drafts from your sources, approval before publishing, groups, assignment and progress (available now).
- Reminders to staff who fall behind and progress digests for managers (planned, not available today).
- A readiness check at the end of a new hire's first week (available now).
- Answers to staff questions in Chat from approved knowledge, and scheduled reports to managers (planned, not available today).
When another tool fits better
If your courses already exist and someone keeps them current, a classic LMS, or one with AI drafting, helps that person work faster. You may need nothing more. For a one-time course on a general subject, a generator gives you a first outline, as long as an expert reads every line. Elvina tracks certification dates per person, and reminders before a certification expires are planned, not available today; regulator records belong in a system built for them. Elvina does not certify anyone or replace required training. She fits when courses must come from your own procedures and nobody has time to write them.
A worked example
A fictional chain of five board game cafés hires part-time hosts every few months. Its LMS added an AI writing helper last year, yet the table check-in, game teaching and café counter courses were never written, because nobody had time.
- The operations lead adds the host SOP, the counter checklist and a recorded walkthrough of teaching a new game to Company Knowledge.
- Elvina drafts three short courses with quizzes and a job aid for the counter, and the lead approves them after one fix.
- Each café becomes a group on the Learning Platform, and new hosts get the courses before their first shift.
- The lead checks progress by café herself, since scheduled reports to managers and reminders to staff are planned, not available today.
- The courses also export as SCORM packages, so they can sit in the old LMS if the chain keeps it.

Who Elvina is not for, and when another tool fits
Elvina is not the right choice if
- Your courses already exist and someone keeps them current.
- You need a system of record for regulated certifications.
- You want a catalog of general courses rather than training from your own procedures.
Another kind of tool may fit better
- A classic LMS, or one with AI drafting, when an admin already writes the courses.
- A course generator, for a one-time general course that an expert reads line by line.
