What should a new hire be able to do?
Write what the person should be able to do, under which conditions, and who will observe it. Replace “understand the handbook” with a task and a visible criterion.
ELVINA ACADEMY / FREE WORKING TEMPLATE
An employee onboarding checklist sets out, for one role, what the new person should be able to do, which approved sources teach it, who checks the work and when. Download the blank onboarding plan template here, compare it with a filled example, and adapt it in your own tools; no email is required.

Which role is this for? I'll fill out a sample for that role and leave what I don't know as a placeholder for you.

An employee onboarding plan template is a one-role checklist of the tasks a new person must handle alone, the approved source behind each task, the practice step, who checks the work and the date it is due. Managers and trainers fill it out before the start date and leave unknown dates open rather than guess. Elvina fills a sample plan for the role you name, with placeholders where she lacks facts, and drafts the lesson, quiz and job aid behind each task from your approved sources, available now.

Adapt the tasks and checkpoints to your team.
Write what the person should be able to do, under which conditions, and who will observe it. Replace “understand the handbook” with a task and a visible criterion.
Separate the knowledge everyone needs from tasks specific to the role. List the source owner, version, practice and reviewer. Add a baseline and the next content-review date where known; leave unknown fields open instead of guessing.
A milestone plan for the first three months may suit some roles; a short shift-training task needs different checkpoints. Set dates after agreeing on the scope, support available, and readiness criterion. OPM's hiring roadmap for federal agencies, for example, spreads orientation checkpoints across the first week, the first 30 days, days 30 to 90 and the rest of the first year.
The Markdown files open in any text editor and can be adapted to your documentation tool. Elvina Academy is the public learning library, not your company’s private LMS. Downloading does not create an account or assign training.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS
For one role: the tasks the new person must do alone, the approved source that teaches each one, a practice step, who checks the work and by when. Keep paperwork and account setup on a separate list, so they do not crowd out the work itself.
Yes. All timing fields are editable; no standard number of days is presented as a promise.
