Use a web page as a knowledge source
A resource URL is one authorized web address, such as a manufacturer’s installation specification, added to your source library together with its owner, revision, retrieval date and the sections you allow. Enablement managers and trainers at distributors and service firms use it when lessons must quote an outside page word for word. Elvina reads only that page and cites it in drafts by title and section. Pasting a link into Company Knowledge and drafting lessons from it are available now. Elvina does not watch the page for later revisions.

What happens on the free demo
- Book 30 minutes. Pick a time with Elvina's team. The demo is free and runs on Zoom.
- Show the team your goal. Bring one role or one procedure. The team shows how Elvina would handle it, using sample materials.
- Agree on the next step. You leave with a plan for the first step and its price. Nothing reaches your team until you approve it.
Who this is for, and when
A product enablement manager at an HVAC equipment distributor trains installers on a manufacturer specification that lives on the manufacturer's website. Lessons must quote clearances and electrical requirements exactly, and the legal team wants a record of which page, which revision and which sections were used.
How it works in Elvina
A product specification is referenced by title, revision and the sections used in the lesson.
- In Company Knowledge, choose Add source from URL and paste the authorized page with its owner, scope and retrieval date.
- Elvina fetches only the page you named and records title, revision, retrieval date and section headings.
- Mark the sections that are in scope; Elvina flags login walls, broken links or conflicts with an existing source.
- Creation Studio drafts cite the source by title and section, and the owner approves before any lesson uses it.
A worked example
A fictional distributor, North Ridge Supply, adds the manufacturer page for Model HX-400 Installation Specification, revision C. The technical trainer is named as owner, and the scope is limited to sections 3 through 5: clearances, electrical and startup. Retrieval date is recorded on the source card.
- The source card lists revision C, the retrieval date and the three sections in scope.
- A startup lesson cites section 5 by heading, and the reviewer can open the reference directly.
- When the page was temporarily unreachable, Elvina paused the import and asked for the owner's decision.
What to check before relying on it
A URL is not permission to ingest everything behind it. Stop on inaccessible or conflicting material; never infer a newer version.
- The source card shows owner, revision and retrieval date.
- Only the marked sections appear in lesson citations.
- No content came from pages behind a login.
- Conflicts with an internal SOP are flagged, not merged.
- Each citation resolves to the recorded source.
Where a person stays in charge
Elvina does not crawl the rest of the site or follow links from the page. It does not watch the page for updates or assume a newer revision exists. Whether you are permitted to use the page is your call. A person approves the source. Confirm usage rights with legal before a live rollout.
Who this is not for, and when another tool fits
This is not the right fit if
- You want a whole website crawled and kept in sync for you.
- The page sits behind a login or you have no right to use it.
- You need someone to decide whether the outside page or your own SOP is right.
Another kind of tool may fit better
- Your current authoring tool, if one designer already builds every course by hand and the team is happy with it.
- A shared drive, when people only need to find a file rather than learn a task.
