IN SHORT

Adding a lesson section, in short

A lesson section is a headed block inside one lesson that pulls certain paragraphs, such as exceptions that need the shift lead, out of the ordinary steps so readers stop skimming past them. Store trainers and operations leads use it on long lessons that mix the routine with special cases. Elvina moves the text you select under your heading and corrects heading levels without rewording a sentence. Editing lessons by hand in Creation Studio, with approval before staff see the change, is available now.

Example scenario with sample data.

01

Who this is for, and when

A store operations trainer at a pet supply retailer has a long opening-routine lesson that mixes normal steps with exceptions. Associates skim past the part about when to call the shift lead because it sits inside ordinary paragraphs. She wants exceptions under their own heading, with the wording untouched.

02

How it works in Elvina

An Exceptions section collects cases that require the shift lead, distinct from the normal opening routine.

  • Open the lesson in Creation Studio, highlight the paragraphs that describe exceptions, and choose Add section.
  • Type the heading; Elvina moves the selected text under it and adjusts heading levels so the outline nests correctly.
  • Preview the reading order and the table of contents, then confirm nothing was reworded.
  • The reviewer approves the change before the Learning Platform shows the updated lesson.
03

A worked example

A fictional chain, Paws and Pantry, runs eighteen stores and a lesson called Opening the Store based on Daily Operations Manual, section 2. The trainer creates a heading, Exceptions: call the shift lead, and gathers four cases beneath it: alarm fault, cash drawer short, missing keyholder and a delivery arriving before opening.

  • The lesson now has five sections, with the four exception cases grouped under one heading.
  • The district manager compared old and new text side by side and confirmed the meaning was unchanged.
  • Associates reach the exceptions from the table of contents in one click.
04

What to check before relying on it

Check heading hierarchy and placement. Moving text under a new heading must not change its meaning.

  • Heading levels nest correctly with no skipped level.
  • No sentence was rewritten during the move.
  • Anchor links to the moved text still work.
  • The screen-reader heading list reads in logical order.
  • Exception cases no longer appear inside the normal routine.
05

Where a person stays in charge

Sectioning moves text; it does not rewrite or summarize it. Elvina does not decide which cases count as exceptions. A person approves the structure. If the lesson is already assigned, confirm with your administrator whether a structural change requires a fresh review in your workspace.

WHO IT IS NOT FOR

Who this is not for, and when another tool fits

This is not the right fit if

  • You want the lesson rewritten or summarized, not only reorganized.
  • You expect Elvina to decide which cases count as exceptions.
  • The real problem is that the procedure itself is unclear.

Another kind of tool may fit better

  • Your current authoring tool, if one designer already builds every course by hand and the team is happy with it.
  • A shared drive, when people only need to find a file rather than learn a task.
