Reordering course modules, in short
Reordering modules changes the required path through a course, for example putting the daily routine ahead of exception handling so new hires learn what normal looks like first. Operations managers and course owners use it on inherited courses built in an unhelpful order. Elvina maps dependencies between modules, points out lessons or quiz questions that assume the old order, and keeps the original path for anyone already past the moved module. Reordering modules by hand in a multi-module course is available now, with the owner’s approval.

Who this is for, and when
A hotel operations manager inherited a housekeeping course where the exception module, damaged rooms and lost-and-found items, came before the daily room routine. New hires were learning what to do when things go wrong before they knew what normal looked like. She wants orientation first, routines second, exceptions last, without disrupting the eight room attendants currently enrolled.
How it works in Elvina
Orientation precedes daily routines, with exception handling after the normal process.
- The manager opens the course structure in the Learning Platform and drags the Exceptions module to the end.
- Elvina maps dependencies across modules and lists any lesson that assumes the earlier order, such as a quiz referencing the exception checklist.
- She reviews the two flagged lessons, edits one reference in Creation Studio, and confirms the module order.
- Elvina saves the new required path for new enrollments and keeps the old path for learners who are already past the moved module.
A worked example
A fictional operator, Harbor Row Hotels, runs a four-module housekeeping course: Orientation, Exceptions, Daily Room Routine, Guest Interaction. Eight attendants are enrolled; three have completed Exceptions. The course owner is the executive housekeeper.
- The order became Orientation, Daily Room Routine, Guest Interaction, Exceptions.
- One quiz question that assumed the exception checklist had been seen was moved to the final module.
- The three attendants who had finished Exceptions kept that completion and continued along the original path.
What to check before relying on it
Check dependencies across modules and avoid silently changing the required path for learners already in progress.
- The module list shows the intended order for new learners, and each module's lessons are intact.
- Every dependency flagged by the platform has been resolved or consciously accepted.
- Learners in progress can still reach completion without repeating a finished module.
- The course owner approved the new structure, and the change appears in the course history.
Where a person stays in charge
Module reordering changes the required path, which is why the platform shows in-progress learners and asks before applying it to them. Elvina does not judge whether the new sequence is sound for your property; the executive housekeeper does. Compliance courses tied to a certification body may need external sign-off that the platform cannot provide.
Who this is not for, and when another tool fits
This is not the right fit if
- You only need lessons rearranged inside one module.
- You want the platform to judge whether the new order is sound.
- An outside certification body must sign off on structural changes first.
Another kind of tool may fit better
- Your current authoring tool, if one designer already builds every course by hand and the team is happy with it.
- A shared drive, when people only need to find a file rather than learn a task.
