Test a decision, not recall alone
A decision question is a quiz item built on a realistic scenario: the learner picks the right action and then sees why each wrong option fails. It suits quality and training managers whose staff pass recall quizzes yet still make the wrong call with a customer. You supply the scenario, the correct action and the reasoning; Elvina drafts plausible wrong options grounded in the approved lesson and a subject expert confirms the answer. Quizzes on lesson material and editing any question by hand are available now, while quiz scores are not stored.

Who this is for, and when
A support quality manager at a furniture delivery company sees agents pass the delay-handling quiz and still promise arrival times they cannot know. Recall questions are not catching the problem. He wants a scenario question that tests the decision itself: escalate uncertainty rather than guess, with distractors that explain why guessing fails.
How it works in Elvina
A delivery-delay question asks the learner to escalate uncertainty instead of promising an unverified arrival time.
- Open the approved lesson in Creation Studio, choose Add question, and select the decision type.
- Enter the scenario, the correct action, three distractors and the explanation for each.
- Elvina grounds each distractor in the lesson text and flags any option that could also be defended.
- Set scoring and feedback timing, then preview the question as a learner would see it.
- After reviewer approval, learners see the question once your manager assigns the lesson; detailed quiz answers and scores are not stored.
A worked example
A fictional retailer, Oakline Home Delivery, has a lesson called Handling Delivery Delays built from Customer Promise Policy v3. The quality manager adds a question: a customer asks when the truck will arrive after a two-hour tracking gap. Four options are drafted, one correct.
- The approved question has a single correct answer: escalate to dispatch and offer a callback.
- The QA lead rejected the first draft because two options were both defensible; one was rewritten.
- Each wrong option now carries a one-sentence explanation tied to the policy.
What to check before relying on it
Reject questions with two defensible answers. Explain why each distractor is wrong and keep the answer grounded in the lesson.
- Only one option is correct under the lesson text.
- Every distractor explanation cites a passage from the lesson.
- The correct answer wording matches the current policy version.
- The explanation appears after the attempt, not before.
- The question maps to a stated learning objective.
Where a person stays in charge
Elvina does not grade open-ended judgment or write policy on your behalf. It drafts distractors from the lesson, but a subject expert decides which answer is right. A person approves before learners see the question. Confirm scoring and retake rules with your administrator before a live assessment.
Who this is not for, and when another tool fits
This is not the right fit if
- You need essays or open-ended judgment graded automatically.
- Nobody on your side can say which answer is right under your policy.
- You want an exam set and run by an outside licensing body.
Another kind of tool may fit better
- Your current authoring tool, if one designer already builds every course by hand and the team is happy with it.
- A shared drive, when people only need to find a file rather than learn a task.
