Start a new version from a copy
Duplicating a training item makes an independent copy with its own identity, so a new season or campaign can start from last year’s draft while the original stays untouched. Seasonal hiring leads and trainers use it after someone once edited a live version by mistake. Content and media references come across; assignments, permissions and sales settings do not, and Elvina lists both before you confirm. Lesson drafts and the Web workspace where you copy them are available now. The copy is reviewed before anyone is enrolled.

Who this is for, and when
A seasonal hiring lead at a ski resort wants to start this winter's onboarding from last winter's draft without risking the original. Last year someone edited the live version by mistake and two hundred returning staff saw half-finished text. She needs a clean copy, in a new campaign, with the original locked as it is.
How it works in Elvina
A seasonal onboarding draft is copied into a new campaign while its original version remains unchanged.
- Select the product in the Web workspace and choose Duplicate, then pick the destination.
- Elvina lists what will copy, content and media references, and what will not: assignments, permissions and commercial settings.
- Confirm; the copy appears as a draft with a new identity while the original stays unchanged.
- Update dates, names and sources in the copy before it goes to review.
A worked example
A fictional resort, Silver Pine, keeps a draft called Winter Onboarding 2025. The hiring lead duplicates it into a Winter 2026 campaign folder, then replaces the season dates, the lift supervisor contacts and the lodging policy source with current versions.
- The copy was created as a draft with its own ID, and the 2025 original was untouched.
- Media references carried over, so no images had to be re-uploaded.
- Assignments did not copy, which prevented last year's staff from being enrolled again.
What to check before relying on it
Verify what is copied: assets, permissions, assignments and commercial settings must not be assumed to follow automatically.
- The original shows no modification timestamp from the copy.
- The copy is in draft status.
- Every referenced asset opens in the copy.
- Permissions on the copy were set deliberately, not inherited by assumption.
- The copy's name distinguishes it from the original.
Where a person stays in charge
Duplication copies content, not learner progress, assignments or any sales settings. Reuse rights for media are not assumed to transfer; check licenses that were tied to the original context. Elvina does not merge changes back into the source. A person reviews the copy before assignment.
Who this is not for, and when another tool fits
This is not the right fit if
- You want learner progress or assignments carried into the copy.
- You need changes in the copy merged back into the original.
- Media licenses were tied to the original use and nobody has checked them.
Another kind of tool may fit better
- Your current authoring tool, if one designer already builds every course by hand and the team is happy with it.
- A shared drive, when people only need to find a file rather than learn a task.
