IN SHORT

Creating an onboarding plan, in short

An onboarding plan sets out the route from a new hire’s first day to working without supervision: what to read before starting, what to practice on early shifts, and what a manager must observe before signing off. It is for directors and managers without a learning team who write each plan from memory. Elvina drafts the three phases from your tasks and sources, names a reviewer for each critical task and treats dates as assumptions; first-days plans and assigning them by role are available now.

Example scenario with sample data.

What happens on the free demo

  1. Book 30 minutes. Pick a time with Elvina's team. The demo is free and runs on Zoom.
  2. Show the team your goal. Bring one role or one procedure. The team shows how Elvina would handle it, using sample materials.
  3. Agree on the next step. You leave with a plan for the first step and its price. Nothing reaches your team until you approve it.

Who this is for, and when

A regional director at a property management company hires leasing consultants who must show apartments alone within three weeks. There is no learning team; the director writes each plan from memory. He wants a plan that separates what to read before day one, what to practice on the first shifts, and what a community manager must observe before the consultant works unsupervised.

02

How it works in Elvina

A plan separates pre-start information, first-shift practice and later manager observation.

  • He lists the role's tasks, the owners of each source document in Company Knowledge, mentor availability and the readiness criteria he actually uses.
  • Elvina drafts a plan in Creation Studio with three phases (pre-start reading, first-shift practice, manager observation) each with dates as assumptions.
  • Every critical task gets a named reviewer; tasks without a source or reviewer are flagged.
  • He adjusts the dates to the mentor's schedule and assigns the plan on the Learning Platform.
03

A worked example

A fictional company, Larkspur Residential, manages 22 communities. A new leasing consultant starts at the Willow Park property. Sources are the Fair Housing Basics lesson, the Tour Standard, and the Application Processing Guide. The community manager can mentor two afternoons a week.

  • A plan with four pre-start lessons, six practice tasks over the first two weeks, and three observed tours in week three.
  • Each observed tour has the community manager as reviewer and a checklist of what she confirms.
  • One task (handling a prospect who asks about neighbors) was flagged because no approved source covers it; the director wrote one.
04

What to check before relying on it

Use dates as planning assumptions, not guaranteed proficiency. Assign a reviewer for every critical task.

  • Every task in the plan links to an approved source or is flagged as a gap.
  • Each critical task has a named reviewer, not 'manager'.
  • Phases are labeled and the dates are marked as planning assumptions.
  • Readiness criteria are written in observable terms.
05

Where a person stays in charge

The plan is a schedule and a set of expectations, not a guarantee that anyone is proficient on a given date. Elvina drafts it from the tasks and sources supplied; it does not observe tours or judge readiness. The community manager's observation is the evidence, and the director decides when supervision ends.

WHO IT IS NOT FOR

Who this is not for, and when another tool fits

This is not the right fit if

  • You need hiring paperwork, payroll or schedules set up.
  • You want the plan to declare a person ready on a fixed date.
  • The role has no written tasks or sources yet and nobody will review them.

Another kind of tool may fit better

  • A course library, when the topics are general skills rather than your own procedures.
  • An instructional designer, for a large program with branching scenarios or live workshops.
