IN SHORT

Adding a course module, in short

Adding a module inserts a new unit into an existing course outline, such as a Returns unit placed after Checkout, without exposing half-written lessons to people who are already enrolled. Curriculum leads and trainers at small and mid-size companies reach for it when a process changes while a course is running. You choose the position and one objective and link the approved procedure; Elvina sets up placeholder lessons that you write or have drafted. Multi-module courses, editing modules by hand and approval before anything is assigned are available now.

  2. Show the team your goal. Bring one role or one procedure. The team shows how Elvina would handle it, using sample materials.
  3. Agree on the next step. You leave with a plan for the first step and its price. Nothing reaches your team until you approve it.

Who this is for, and when

A curriculum lead at an e-commerce fulfillment company maintains a Warehouse Associate Onboarding course with Receiving, Picking and Checkout modules. The returns process changed last month, and she needs a Returns module after Checkout. Sixty associates are already assigned, so half-written lessons must not appear in their course view.

02

How it works in Elvina

A Returns module sits after Checkout and contains explanation, practice and a manager check.

  • In Creation Studio, open the course outline and choose the insertion point right after the Checkout module.
  • Name the module, state one learning objective, and link the approved returns procedure from Company Knowledge.
  • Elvina creates the container with three draft placeholders: explanation, practice and a manager check.
  • Write or generate each lesson, then set Checkout as the prerequisite so Returns unlocks in order.
  • The Learning Platform keeps the module out of active assignments until the module and its lessons are approved.
03

A worked example

A fictional third-party logistics provider, Harbor Line Fulfillment, runs an onboarding course with three modules and fourteen lessons. The curriculum lead adds a Returns and Restocking module after Checkout, sourced from Returns Handling Procedure rev 2026-03. Sixty associates are mid-course during the change.

  • The module appears fourth in the outline with three lessons marked draft.
  • Associates already in the course saw no change to their navigation.
  • The warehouse manager approved the manager-check lesson, and the module went live for the next cohort.
04

What to check before relying on it

Check prerequisites and navigation. Adding a container must not silently publish its unfinished lessons.

  • The outline shows the new module in the intended position.
  • All lessons inside the module carry draft status until approved.
  • The prerequisite points to Checkout and nothing else.
  • Next and back navigation flows through the module without dead ends.
  • The learning objective is visible on the module card.
05

Where a person stays in charge

Elvina does not decide where a module belongs or what it should teach; you set the objective and the position. Adding a container does not reassign learners or notify them. An empty module cannot be published. For a live course, confirm with your administrator how structural changes affect existing assignments and completion records.

WHO IT IS NOT FOR

Who this is not for, and when another tool fits

This is not the right fit if

  • You want a new module pushed to learners the moment it is created.
  • The course is one short lesson that does not need modules at all.
  • You expect Elvina to decide what the new module should teach.

Another kind of tool may fit better

  • Your current authoring tool, if one designer already builds every course by hand and the team is happy with it.
  • A shared drive, when people only need to find a file rather than learn a task.
