Clipping a long recording, in short
Clipping a long recording means cutting one long demonstration into a few short clips, each built around one learning objective and each keeping its own warnings. Field service, manufacturing and installation managers use it when technicians drop off long before the end of a forty-minute video. Elvina suggests where each clip starts and ends from the transcript, and a subject expert moves the boundaries and approves the result. Uploading recordings and drafting lessons from them are available now. Clips cannot replace footage that was never shot.

Who this is for, and when
A field service manager at a solar installer has a forty-minute recording of an inverter start-up and technicians who will not watch past minute ten. He needs three focused clips, setup, normal operation and fault handling, and he needs the safety warning to stay attached to the step it protects.
How it works in Elvina
A forty-minute demonstration is divided into setup, normal operation and exception-handling clips with timestamps.
- Upload the recording to Creation Studio and attach a transcript, or let Elvina produce one for review.
- State the learning objectives; Elvina proposes clip boundaries with timestamps and a title for each.
- Check that warnings and context sit inside the clip that needs them, then trim the edges.
- Approve the clips; your manager assigns them on the Learning Platform as separate lessons or one sequence.
A worked example
A fictional company, Bright Meridian Solar, recorded Inverter Start-Up Demo at forty minutes. The manager sets three objectives: physical setup, normal operation and fault handling. A key warning about DC isolation occurs at 22:14, mid-way through the fault portion.
- Elvina proposed clips of nine, fourteen and eleven minutes, each starting with a sentence of context.
- The DC isolation warning stayed inside the fault-handling clip rather than being cut at a boundary.
- The lead technician reviewed all three and approved them for the next onboarding group.
What to check before relying on it
Keep warnings and context with the relevant procedure. A shorter clip is not better if it omits a critical step.
- Each clip opens with enough context to stand alone.
- Every warning remains with the procedure it protects.
- Timestamps map back to the original recording.
- No step is cut mid-sentence.
- The transcript aligns with each clip.
Where a person stays in charge
Elvina cannot re-shoot missing footage or decide which steps are safe to omit; a subject expert makes that call. A shorter clip that drops a critical step is worse than the full recording. A person approves before assignment. Confirm you hold rights to the recording and consent from anyone visible in it.
Who this is not for, and when another tool fits
This is not the right fit if
- You need a sixty-second promo cut rather than training clips.
- Nobody on your side can say which steps are safe to shorten.
- The recording shows people who have not agreed to its reuse.
- Key steps were never filmed and need a re-shoot.
Another kind of tool may fit better
- A video editor, for a polished cut with graphics, extra footage and music.
- A re-shoot with your lead technician, when the step you need is missing from the footage.
